13 July 2024: Singing in the Abbey at Romsey’s incredible Beggars Fair we were just one act of the many putting the fabulous sound of music into the town’s summer……
There’s no doubt the Beggars Fair is a highlight in RMVC’s programme every year and we love it.
The streets throughout the town are full of music lovers, families with excited children and tail wagging dogs, all enjoying the fabulous variety of music in the streets, the churches, inside and outside of the hotel and the pubs. RMVC’s performance slot this year in Romsey Abbey was indeed a lovely occasion to both metaphorically and literally take off our jackets to sing. Amongst our pieces performed were the rousing crowd-pleasers Nessan Dorma and Seize the Day, as well as more quietly emotional songs including Eric Clapton’s Tears from Heaven. Then the finale, so appropriate on the day before England’s ‘big match’, was Sweet Caroline where the wonderful audience joined us in robustly singing and waving arms in air,
Thank you Beggars Fair organisers – you did it again this year. Thank you Romsonians for turning out in such numbers and coming to hear us sing and thank you to whoever it was on the day that put the sun into the Music in Romsey.
